​Sustainability Committee

The Sustainability Committee is an umbrella committee to address current and future issues impacting Southwest Harbor. This committee is often required for grant eligibility at the state and federal level.

Mission: The sustainability committee is a permanent committee to help the Select Board develop programs and policies to make the town and its citizens more resilient in areas related to the environment, health, infrastructure, waterfront, and safety and to help ensure that Southwest Harbor is welcoming for future generations.
 
Structure: The chair, Secretary, and members who will then fill the working groups.  Each working group shall have from 3-5 members and report back to the committee. The committee will meet once a month. 

Below Are The Three Initial Subcommittees 

​​​Solid Waste & Recycling Working Group
 Purpose is to explore options for managing solid waste in order to promote equitable, sustainable, environmentally sound, and cost-effective practices through waste reduction, reuse, recycling, innovative technologies, and education.

Vulnerability Assessment Working Group
Purposed is to collect information about environmental and safety issues that detrimentally affect the town and make recommendations for possible actions to correct or improve these issues.

Housing Working Group
Propose is to study and collect data on housing in Southwest Harbor and make any recommendations to improve housing accessibility and affordability.
