General Assistance Notice
The municipality of Southwest Harbor administers a General Assistance Program for the support of the poor. Pursuant to Title 22 MRSA 4305, the municipal officers have adopted an ordinance establishing that program.  
A copy of this ordinance and relevant statutes is available for inspection at the Southwest Harbor Town Office. Persons who wish to apply for General Assistance may do so at the Southwest Harbor Town Office during the following time(s):
          Day(s):             Tuesday and/or Thursday
          Hour(s):          9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon by Appointment ONLY
In an emergency, applicants may contact the Southwest Harbor Dispatch office at 207-244-7911. The municipality’s General Assistance Administrator must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application.  The Department of Human Services toll-free telephone number, to call with a question regarding the General Assistance Program is 1-800-442-6003.
